4 Things That Are Better Than A New Year’s Resolution

It’s December 31st and the excitement of setting goals, reviewing the past year and dedicating yourself to making changes is in the air. For some people this is invigorating and for others it is downright annoying. Which type are you?
If you are the type that doesn’t get excited about making New Year’s resolutions, here are four things that are better than a New Year’s resolution. These are not items that are made on a whim or based on a kind pf promise that could be considered fleeting. Look at these items as “projects” that are created with a bigger picture in mind.
[if !supportLists]- [endif]Find ONE thing about yourself you want to get better at: This task is a personal one. If taken seriously, this project has the potential to be “Life Changer.” It doesn’t matter what that one thing is, after all it is your project. Outline the steps necessary for you to become better at this one thing and put your plan into action.
[if !supportLists]- [endif]Do yourself a favor and tell someone about your projects: When you let yourself tell others about what you are attempting to do, somethings happens. You create accountability for yourself. Accountability, in this sense of the word, simply means that you share your hopes, passions and goals etc.., with others. This will lead to extra motivation encouragement from outside sources.
[if !supportLists]- [endif]Outline significant milestones for each project: Without writing down and setting project milestones, success will be hard to come by. These milestones can be as easy as daily, weekly or even monthly. If your project is to learn to code websites, one of the first milestones can be coding a simple landing page. Share your success with others each time you reach and surpass these set and recorded milestones.
[if !supportLists]- [endif]Discover the ONE word that will set the tone for your year and projects: Most people write down big long term goals that get lost in the shuffle of papers on their desk or in their notebook. Pick a single word that you will remember, look at and focus on that will motivate you to start, continue and finish your projects. This one word could even by an acronym if needs be. By focusing on that one word, every time you hear it, read it or see it, you will be reminded of what you are trying to accomplish in your own personal life. (Mine for this year is CREATE)
If you’re the kind of person that is not the “New Year’s Resolution” type than these four things above are better than a resolution. Start making the changes necessary for you to accomplish the projects that you set out to do. Focus on the little milestones. By doing this you will be reminded more and more of the end results and accomplishing these projects will become motivating and fulfilling.
Cheers to a great 2016! Each New Year brings with it challenges and uphill battles, but don’t let these interfere with the success that you want to have. Make the decision now to go and do rather than sit and wait.
