A Lesson on Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher: one that teaches especially, one whose occupation is to instruct.

Based on the definition above it’s pretty safe to say that every person has been impacted by a teacher who helped to broaden their mind and change their worldview. It's been said that teaching is the profession that creates all other professions- teachers are shaping the world! Teachers have been heroes over the last year as they’ve worked to create hybrid lessons and taught remotely. To celebrate the influence that teachers have on society, National Teacher Appreciation Week takes place the first week of May.

History of National Teacher Appreciation Week

While many people were campaigning for the designation of a Teacher’s Day it would take over 30 years (and a little help from Eleanor Roosevelt) before congress finally created the first National Teacher’s Day in 1984. The first National Teacher’s Day was celebrated on March 7th of that year but was later moved to May and celebrated for a whole week! National Teacher’s Appreciation Week 2021 takes place May 3-7th.
