Here's How to Reuse Extra Giveaway Items

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

It's something all marketers have gone through. You order the perfect promo product for your event, everyone loves it, yet you walk away with boxes of extras. There are a number of reasons this happens - you had to order the minimum quantity, thus ended up with 500 items instead of the 300 you planned on giving away, less people attend the event then planned, etc. - but no matter the reason, you have giveaways left over, and aren't sure what to do with them.

Sometimes it's easy to save them for your next event, which is a great way to reuse awesome giveaways. But what if you don't have an event coming up? That's when it becomes hard to decide what to do with the extras. Do you build box forts in your office, clutter up the mail room, or fill any empty spaces you can find with these extras? You could do that, but here are a few ideas for other ways you can reuse your extra promo products.

  • Use them to reach out to customers. You can give customers these extra items as a "Thank You For Your Business" or a "We're Sorry About That" gift. These can go a long way toward the positive perception of your brand, and create emotional experiences with your brand that people will remember for a long time.

  • Extra items are great employee gifts. Put them in gift baskets for company events, or simply give them as a reward to your standout employees. However you decide to gift them to your team, it will help generate positive morale, which is priceless.

  • If your extra items fit the bill, consider donating them to a local classroom. Items like writing utensils or leftover office supplies are great options to donate to schools, and this donation will certainly create a positive association with your brand.

  • Look into upcoming community events (such as a local 5K or community clean up day) and see if you can sponsor them. These events are a great way to connect your brand to the community in a positive way, and also help you use up your leftover items as giveaways at the event.

  • Take a few items on sales calls, or to meetings, and give them to whomever you're meeting with. That way they will have something tangible to remember you by, plus they'll think of you positively since promotional products are proven to make people happy.

However you decide to reuse your extra giveaway items, remember that it's important to create positive experiences and connections with your brand, and the above ideas are great options to help you do so.
