Why BrightPoint Loves Wearing Hats

We interviewed our favorite hat wearers at BrightPoint about their hats and why they choose, or don't choose, to wear the hats that they do. The answers brought up some interesting points of view and even some topics of conversation. Here are some of the reasons why we've decided hats are for us:

1. You don't have to do your hair

This answer came up a lot. In fact, it was the most common response we received. The convenience of not having to style your hair is a compelling reason to don a hat. Similarly, for many in our BrightPoint community, wearing a hat served as a delightful excuse to procrastinate going to the salon for a haircut. Hats also serve as an effective way to cover up your hair if a haircut doesn't go as planned, or if you're having a bad hair day. Hats offer a stylish and practical way to manage hair woes. Allowing individuals to step out with confidence and ease, regardless of what might be happening underneath, is a strong motivator to putting that cap on your cranium.

2. Style

The second most popular response from our BrightPoint Creative team was fashion. Is there a better way to showcase your style than what you wear on your head? What you wear can transform you into a walking advertisement for expressing your fashion sense. Not to mention showing off the newest and trendiest styles makes you feel in tune with what's current. Alternatively, if you prefer to be a fashion outlier and make a statement that is 100% your own, hats serve as an excellent medium to highlight your brand and a style that is as unique as you.

3. It sends a message

Say it without saying a thing. That's what our BrightPoint Creative team identified as another fantastic reason to wear a hat. Why else would you wear a hat if not to represent your favorite team, your interests, and your values? Your hat speaks volumes about you and how you wish to express yourself and stand out. It's not only what's on your hat that makes a statement, but also how you wear it. What better way to say you're laid-back and carefree than by wearing your hat backward? Or to challenge social norms better than a sideways bill? Don't want to be disturbed when you're "heads down" on a project? Just pull that brim all the way down to the bridge of your nose. Your choice of hat can turn you into a living billboard for what you love and what you want the world to understand about you, all without saying a word.

4. How it makes

you feel

Cue the James Brown throwback song. Up next on our list of why we love wearing hats is how they make you feel. Many times, while doing our interview, the phrase "It's a vibe" was mentioned. Words like chill, casual, and comfortable were also used by the team to describe the feeling of being a part of that culture. The hat you choose not only reflects your personality outwardly but also evokes the emotions and messages you wish to experience yourself. While we often tend to think of what hats convey to the outside world, at BrightPoint Creative, we've discovered it's what's inside the hat that truly matters.

 5. Functionality

Perhaps not as fun as other reasons, the practical function of hats ranks fifth on our list.

Although we don't primarily wear them for this reason, BrightPoint had to mention the bonus of hats shielding our eyes from the sun and keeping our hair in place while playing pickleball. We also learned an interesting fact, that back in the 1970s, trucker hats weren’t considered fashionable at all. They were instead thought of as promotional giveaways from feed stores and tractor companies. (Another reason BrightPoint Creative resonates with that culture.) Used by farmers to protect their eyes from the sun and manage their hair while working. Locals even called them “gimme caps” because people would walk in and say: “Gimme one of those hats!” While not exactly glamorous, hats undeniably serve as useful tools, just as much as they are fashion statements.

Bonus Reason: Community

This one was higher on our list, but because it's so near and dear to us, we thought we'd save the best for last.

Bringing us together through similar interests, values, and our shared love for hats is why hat culture to us also means community. Some of the words that came up during the interview were: Love, partnership, camaraderie, and fun. Which perfectly describes what BrightPoint Creative is all about.

At BrightPoint Creative, we believe that this culture fosters a deep sense of belonging and connection among us. We value our collective passion for hat aesthetics and the unique feeling an ordinary item can bring to light when worn.

BrightPoint's Take on Hat Culture

The concept of hat culture for us transcends mere fashion or an excuse to not do our hair.
